Henry Jothan Yesuneh Hunt

On March 14, 2007, I got a long-awaited phone call to tell me the adoption agency had a referral for me!  Yesuneh (YES-oo-neh) was born mid-November 2005 in the town of Debre Zeit, Ethiopia.  His birth father was not known, and his mother abandoned him when he was five days old.  A neighbor cared for him for about a year, but then became ill and asked her best friend to take him.  The woman died, and her friend cared for him for several months but was financially unable to keep him.  She took him to the orphanage on Valentine's Day.

He was very small - at 16 months, he was only 27 inches tall (average height for a six-month-old) and weighed only 13 pounds (average weight for a three-month-old).   He had rickets and other symptoms of being malnourished and vitamin D deficient, but developmentally was on target and the orphanage doctor reported he was "emaciated but not sick-looking."  He got nutritional therapy at the orphanage.

UPDATE: Henry arrived home June 24, 2007!

Here's the "Welcome Book" we made for him while he was at the orphanage.
